Here is the most recent study of the top 10 Javelin throwers in 2015
Javelin Top Lists 2015 | U18 – 700g | U20 – 800g | Open – 800g |
Julius Yego | – | 74.00 | 92.72 |
Keshorn Walcott | 66.72 | 84.58 | 90.16 |
Thomas Rohler | – | 78.20 | 89.27 |
Tero Pitkmaki | 73.75 (800g) | 77.24 | 91.53 |
Ihab Abdelrahmen | 71.15 (800g) | 76.20 | 89.21 |
Antti Ruuskanen | 66.08 (800g) | 72.87 | 88.98 |
Vitezslav Vesely | – | 73.22 | 88.34 |
Ari Mannio | 80.22 | 79.68 | 86.82 |
Magnus Kirt | – | 72.97 | 86.65 |
Jakub Vadlejch | 76.93 | 84.47 | 86.21 |
This is an interesting list as there are 2 extremes of the scale and not much middle ground.
Throwers such as Pitkmaki, Abdelrahmen, Mannio and Vadlejch really excelled throughout their youth career when compared to other throwers that were either not throwing or had not got marks good enough to be recorded such as Julius Yego and Thomas Rohler.
The interesting fact is with the Javelin throwers 8 out of the 10 throwers were throwing between 72.97 and 79.68 as junior athletes. After this 7m gap there are 2 outliers both having thrown 84 metres being Keshorn Walcott at the London Olympics in his famous win and Jakub Vadlejch.
When contrasted with the men’s shot, discus and hammer the Javelin has a much smaller range for junior throwers with all of these athletes throwing very good marks.
