2014 Youth Olympic Silver medallist Rares Toader has qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
On June 4th, Toader threw a new personal best of 20.54m to eclipse his old personal best of 20.32m set at the Ostrava Golden Spike Meet.
Toader stated that “I did not expect to throw this performance at this time of month. I have worked very hard in the last couple of months and it has started to pay off.”
When asked about the upcoming Olympics Rares remained level-headed, “It was a dream for me to qualify for the Olympics at 19 years old, and I have achieved that. I am still a Junior and am very satisfied for the Olympic standard. It is a new beginning for my performance and the ultimate goal is to throw the best I can in Tokyo, 2020.”
“While I am very happy about qualifying, I am very focused at the same time. Next month I have the World Junior Championships and European Championships. I now need to prepare much better because I want a European Final in Amsterdam.”
