Metal- Rimmed Discus:
Positives:
- Extremely Durable!
- Steel is the most popular metal used in the construction of a discus.
- Steel is relatively hard and will not be damaged by throws into the cage / harsh landing surfaces.
Bronze allow is used throughout the higher-priced discus models. Bronze is a dense metal resulting in higher rim-weight discus’ using a bronze rim.
On the contrary, bronze is a soft metal and will be dented/damaged easily by harsh landing areas or hits to the cage.
An excellent bronze discus is the CANTABRIAN GOLD HYPER SPIN Official Discus
Side Plates:
Various side plates exist for the discus. They can be made from wood, aluminium, ABS plastic. Plates come in many colours and can be used to suit a throwers taste. Generally they are just a matter of feel and preference for the thrower. Some tend to grip to the hand more than others.
