Jason “Dadz” Morgan
Jason Morgan is a Commonwealth Games bronze medallist, olympic athlete, Jamaican discus record holder and quite possibly one of the coolest men in Field and Track.
Q. How did you get involved in discus throwing?
A. I was a 100m and 200m sprinter in high school . Calabar high school in Jamaica. Even won a gold medal on the sprint medley team with the championship record. I gain some pounds and couldn’t get it off that year. Lol. I was gonna quit track and then i was called for field. My best friend Maurice Smith Jamaica Decathlete force me into throwing. I did not want to do it. He tried over and over. But he told me that girls like strong men who can throw. Lol. And thats what got my attention to give it a try. And became good at it immediately. Lol. Even win a bronze medal 3 month after i learn how to throw. Became national champion and Broke the Jnr the following year
Q. How does the popularity of the throws sit in a country like Jamaica?
A. Throwing is becoming more popular now in Jamaica. I think i may contribute alot to that. I was the first discus thrower who qualify and compete at a world championship. I was the first who hit the qualification standard to compete at an olympic games also.
Q. What drives and motivates you to keep training day in day out?
A. Every night before bed. I pray and ask God to just wake me up to see another day. That is enough for me to work hard honestly and make it known to me and the world that, success is imminent. I love to motivate and inspire people. Help myself to believe that whatever we set our mind, heart and body to. We can achieve and be successful. No limitations. I like that fact that people can say. Because of Jason Dadz Morgan. I believe it was possible.
