As the Diamond League nears, the IAAF has made some unfortunate changes to the meet.
The format for the World Indoor Championships that recently concluded was far from the norm and the diamond league is now continuing this trend.
The summary of which is below:
Expected Format
- All athletes get 3 throws.
- Top 8 Athletes get 3 additional throws.
World Indoor Championship Format
- All Athletes get 3 throws.
- Top 8 athletes get 2 additional throws.
- Top 4 Athletes get 1 additional throw.
IAAF Diamond League Format
- All athletes will have three attempts
- Top 4 will get 3 additional throws.
Why must the IAAF insist on disrupting the throws once again?
Throwers Unite has contacted the IAAF but they are yet to reply.
Along with these changes the IAAF has also changed the point system. The new system will reward athletes for finishing in the top 6.
The new breakdown is as follows:
1st – 10 points
2nd – 6 points
3rd – 4 points
4th – 3 points
5th – 2 points
6th – 1 point
