My name is Ned Weatherly I’m 17 years old, 5’10” (178cm) and weigh around 216lb (98kg).
My Season to date is probably the most successful I have had in my short career. I have broken the u18 Australian Record with a throw of 82.07m. I have won the national title for a 10th time in the hammer throw and amongst other things, some mental and strength goals too.
My goals for the rest of the season only really consist of trying to throw 6kg and 7.26kg hammer as far as I can possibly trying to break the 75m and 65m barriers along with learning even more about the hammer throw.
I still believe I’m quite a novice when it comes to my thought process about the hammer I want to know more about it and how it works and that only comes from the outside knowledge of others.
Training has been okay, I’ve only just started back! Currently I’m throwing a 7.26kg hammer on a long wire and a 6kg on a long wire as well as this I’ve been throwing an 8kg on a short wire and a 9kg on a short wire and a 25lb weight.
I’ve changed my technique slightly so I am putting less pressure on my body and what I have noticed is that the less energy I put into the session the further I can throw towards the end of each session… which is awesome!
My body has been holding up well except for my trap muscles which have been feeling extremely tight and sore however massage does help that. Next week I head away to the national u19 high performance camp in Melbourne where I will be training and having my technique analysed by bio mechanists and learning from some of Australia’s elite hammer throwers. There will also be a competition while I’m there! Very exciting week ahead.
